16 teams will play in the group stages this month in the EHF Cup, which is the second-tier cup in European handball. In recent years German teams have been dominating the competition, and they are the favorites again in the EHF Cup 2019/20 betting predictions.

We have to go back to the 2013/14 season to find a non-German winner of the EHF Cup. Then Hungarian team Pick Szeged took the victory. But since then we can only find German teams as winners at this competition. No wonder, that we can find four German teams as the four top favorites, any other team’s victory would be a little miracle.

German superiority in the EHF Cup 2019/20 betting predictions

It is very unique to have four teams from one country in one competition, but to have them as the four biggest favorites to win is something very special. This is the case though at the men’s EHF Cup, where great European teams are competing. Though it is ranked below the EHF Champions League, it is still a tough cup to win.

Online gambling sites in Germany are giving the smallest odds, 3.00 to last year’s finalist, Fuchse Berlin. The team has already won the cup twice before, in 2015 and 2018, and they were in the top four in the last 7 years. With this experience and results, they are the biggest favorite. In addition, Berlin will also host the final in May, so if they get there, the team can play in its own stadium supported by its fans.

Still staying with the German teams

Two other German teams have similar odds in the EHF Cup 2019/20 betting predictions. Rhein Neckar Löwen and SC Magdeburg. Löwen had reached at least the last 16 of the EHF Champions League in each of the past six seasons. They also won the EHF Cup once, in 2013 and they are two-time German champions. Their odds are 4.00 at bet365

SC Magdeburg has similar odds at the bookmakers, with 4.75. If you compare them with their rivals, they have the biggest successes, winning three times the Champions League. To tell the whole story, these victories are from the past, 1978, 1981 and the latest from 2002. Last year they didn’t manage to reach the group stages, but this year they did. But they won’t have an easy job to get through being in the same group as French side Nantes and Spanish club Ademar Leon.

Other favorites

Though online sportsbooks in Germany are focusing on their own teams, we can also mention HBC Nantes in the favorites with the odds of 9.00. The French team finished as a runner-up in the Champions League in 2018 and second-place in the EHF Cup in 2013 and 2016. They also made a bid to host the final but lost it against Berlin, so now they have a great chance to take revenge in the German’s home.

While Danish club Bjerringbro-Silkeborg is also aiming for qualifying to the quarter-finals and possibly going even further. They’ve already managed to reach the semi-finals of the cup three times, so they are certainly capable of great results. Especially as the team is in a relatively easy group with a Polish and Portuguese opponent, and another German one, MT Melsungen.
