The top women tennis players will meet in Melbourne between the 20th of January and the 2nd of February, on the 108th Australian Open. Serena Williams is the bookmakers favorite in 2020 Australian Open Women’s winner odds, but the newcomers will also chase the title.

Naomi Osaka is the reigning champion, she defeated Czech player Petra Kvitova 7-6, 5-7, 6-4 in the final. Local player Ashleigh Barty is currently No1 on the world ranking after winning Roland Garros and recently the WTA Final. Bianca Andreescu, Karolina Pliskova, and Simona Halep will be there too, just to mention a few opponents of Williams.

In the 2020 Australian Open Women’s winner odds Serena is favored to claim another title

Serena Williams has won 7 times in Australia, she claimed the most victories here. Surely we don’t really need to introduce her to anyone. She is a real legend and can become a record-breaker soon as well. She has 23 Grand Slam wins so far. With one more title, she can equal the current leader, Margaret Court’s record of 24 wins.

But it won’t be an easy task even if online sportsbooks in Australia are giving her the smallest odds, with 6.50. First, she is only 10th in the world ranking at the moment and hasn’t been in the best form recently. She reached the final in Wimbledon where she lost against Simona Halep. After she had to retire from many competitions due to injuries and illnesses. Later she also reached the final of the US Open but lost there as well against young star Bianca Andreescu.

She is 38 now, the oldest from the main favorites, and it remains a question if her fitness will allow her to win another Grand Slam. But if age doesn’t slow down Roger Federer in the men’s race, Williams should be fine too. You can also read the predictions of the men’s race on our site.

Youngsters who can stop Williams

As we mentioned, there is a bunch of new talents in the women’s field, all thirsty for more success after their first victories. The most dangerous one will be a 22-year-old local girl, Ashleigh Barty who had successes earlier in doubles, winning the US Open in 2018 alongside Coco Vandeweghe. Then she started to win in singles as well, last year’s Australian Open she reached the quarter-final after defeating Maria Sharapova, but she lost there against Kvitova. Then she won the Miami Open and her first Grand Slam title in Paris. Her tournament ended in the fourth round in Wimbledon and the US Open, but she ended the season on high with winning the WTA Final. Barty is world No1, and her odds now to make the Aussies happy are 9.00.

Another youngster is Canadian Bianca Andreescu, who had her breakthrough this year at the age of only 19. She started 2019 with winning at Newport Beach and defeating Angelique Kerber in the final at Indian Wells. Then she missed most of the clay and grass-court season due to her shoulder injury, but she won the final in Toronto after Serena Williams had to retire. Then she reached the top with winning the US Open defeating Williams in the final. Can they meet again in the Australian Open final? Read the predictions about her in our previous article. The odds of her winning the championship is 8.00

Few more favorites

Honestly, the list is endless of the players who can be mentioned in the 2020 Australian Open Women’s winner odds as favorites. Let’s just pick some other names. Reigning champion Naomi Osaka, who managed to get her second Grand Slam title with the Australian Open victory.  She got her first one after winning in that memorable final of the 2018 US Open against Williams. Later in the year, she didn’t find her form, we’ll see if she can be in her best in Australia. This year’s Wimbledon champion, Simona Halep is No4 at the moment and has the odds of 11.00 to win her third Grand Slam title.

Online gambling sites in Australia are also mentioning the two Czech players, Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova in the favorites. Pliskova has smaller odds with 13.00, which is understandable after being No2 in the world right now. Even though she hasn’t won any Grand Slam, she reached the semi-final in Melbourne and won in the grass in Eastbourne. While Kvitova reached the final last year here, losing against Osaka, but after she was struggling with injuries. Her odds are only 26.00 with bet365.
