Carlo Ancelotti Rumoured as Potential Italy Boss

Legendary manager Carlo Ancelotti is purportedly believed to have been offered the most prestigious post in Italian football – the boss of the national side.

Clandestine talks, but no official deal has been made

According to Sky in Italy and other online sportsbook news, Ancelotti travelled to Rome where he stayed in the same hotel as Italian Football Federation commissioner and sub-commissioner, Roberto Fabbricini and Alessandro Costacurta, respectively. The latter man has great experience with Ancelotti, having played under him while he was in charge of AC Milan, between 2001 and 2009.

But Costacurta was quick to pour cold water on the notion that Ancelotti was offered the Italian job, saying instead that the pair shared jokes about the possibility and talked about “something else” besides football. As to Ancelotti’s presence in the hotel, the former AC Milan defender said he was simply there for personal reason.

“Carlo was in Rome for personal reasons,” said Costacurta. “I always stay in that hotel and we found each other there. We did not talk about the job, we only joked about the opportunity. You have to talk about many things, the program and finances, but we could not talk about them. Since we are loyal to the rules, we talked about something else.”

Ancelotti has been without a job since being sacked by Bayern Munich last September, following the Bavarian’s 3-0 defeat at the hands of PSG in the group stage of the Champions League. A return to Serie A has been talked about since all the biggest club jobs across Europe’s best leagues are currently occupied, so managing the Italian national side seems likely.

Ancelotti has extensive managerial experience that stretches over 20 years, and has seen him lead giant clubs like Juventus, AC Milan, Chelsea, PSG, Real Madrid and most recently Bayern Munich. He even managed to win the Champions League three times with two different clubs (AC Milan: 2004 and 2007 ; Real Madrid: 2014), besides clinching plenty of other league and cup titles in almost each of the countries he has managed in.

Italy were unsuccessful in qualifying for the 2018 World Cup in Russia – quite embarrassing for such a big football nation that has won the World Cup on four separate occasions (1934, 1938, 1982 and 2006) – so the head chiefs of the Football Federation are looking to find an experienced hand that could take them back to their former glory. Looking at Ancelotti’s CV that comes with vast success at club level, he seems like the perfect man for the job, should he get it of course.

But providers of internet betting in UK are also eyeing Ancelotti to potentially take over Arsenal after Arsene Wenger leaves the club at the end of the season.
