The Odds On The Grand Annual Couldn’t Be More Tempting

They say you should always save the best for last and at the Cheltenham Festival the last race is the Grand Annual, a mass galloping chaos of horses all vying for the final victory of the festival and that 100,000 GBP purse on offer. With an illustrious history of some very famous winners this is the perfect race if you want to bet on sports in the UK and enjoy a level of unpredictability most gamblers shy away from, the odds on the Grand Annual give even the favorite no more than 9/1 to win.
There’s something spectacular about the Grand Annual, so many horses flying around the New Course at Cheltenham as they have done since 1834 (albeit with a few breaks and changes of location along the way) it is perhaps as British as racing gets, as, unfortunately, is the weather at Cheltenham this week making the typically firm going hugely soft under hoof, and making some worry that the race will be called off as it was in 1975 for flooding, however the odds on the Grand Annual going ahead are good.
The odds on the Grand Annual field are likewise rather good, in a way. For a race with so many runners over that 2 mile and half a furlong distance you’d expect some of the horses with lesser chance to get hundreds to one to win, but with the course so soft you could bounce on it like a trampoline the bookies are steering clear of such massive odds and even the outside Grand Annual bets barely touch 80/1 with Savello, the tail end charlie of this particular horse race. But are the bookies just being over cautious?
Will It Be Too Soft For The Favorites In The Grand Annual?
Best Odds On The Grand Annual
• Ordinary World – 16/1
• Dolos – 16/1
• Charbel – 16/1
• Dandridge – 16/1
• Patricks Park – 14/1
• Theinval – 10/1
• Dont Touch It – 10/1
• Vaniteux – 9/1
• North Hill Harvey – 9/1
With a history of upsets the answer is probably not. The bookies know that whilst Solar Impulse and Lake Takapuna don’t have a chance usually in this weather anyone could pull out a surprise win which is why they get 50/1 at best, Even Bright New Dawn and Bentelimar at 40/1 should be flattered, as should quite a few of the mass ranks that occupy that 33/1 ground in the odds on the Grand Annual and just beg you to take advantage of UK gambling laws and place a speculative each-way wager on your favourite name.
There are some quite good names among those distant odds on the Grand Annual this year, so finding one that appeals shouldn’t be tricky at all. Quite By Chance, Pleasant Company, Ted Veale, Cepage, Robinshill, Sizing Platinum, Dresden, Vosne Romanee, Katachenko, The Game Changer, Poker School, Eastlake, Three Stars, and Calipto all share those 33/1 odds, and if you’re not that cavalier there’s always Ozzie the Oscar, Garde La Victoire, Doitforthevillage, Brelan Das and Tommy Silver at 25/1.

The Grand Annual; Cheltenham’s Climax
• Will the race be called off for water-logging as in 1975?
• Can North Hill Harvey or Vaniteux win at those 9/1 odds?
• Does Dolos stand a chance of beating that 16/1 they’re offering?
• Should you place an each-way bet on the Grand Annual this year?
The odds on the Grand Annual are massively varied of course (as one would expect with such a big field) so at 20/1 Valdez, Bun Doran, Bouvreuil, Gino Trail, Powersbomb, Townshend, Le Prezien, Foxtail Hill, Some Plan, Forest Bihan, Born Survior, Duke of Navan, and Top Gamble all make for a pretty attractive each-way wager, but with fatigue likely to play a part in proceedings on that heavy turf you might want to save your bank roll for some of the more likely chances at the top of the field.
Whatever happens it’ll make UK gambling news headlines because there’s no clear favorite here. Ordinary World gets 16/1 as does Dolos and Charbel, Rock The World, and Dandridge, whilst Patricks Park gets a slightly nicer 14/1 just behind 10/1 shots Dont Touch It and Theinval who are themselves only eclipsed by the chances the weather and conditions bestow on Vaniteux and North Hill Harvey who are joint favorites in the odds on the Grand Annual at a generous 9/1, the bookies evidently no more sure what will occur than you are.
