The traditional feature race of Wednesday at the Cheltenham Festival is due to be quite the eye-opener this year as the firm favorite might not take to the heavy going at a course that has seen heavy rain in the aftermath of the cold snap that plagued Europe so recently, but if you’re going to have a flutter and do some Champion Chase betting do the odds available online for Altior mean the best bet is an each-way wager? Obviously one would need to be quite the clairvoyant to place their faith in Ordinary World coming in the top three this time round, sure it’s put in some placed finishes recently under Davy Russell, but you can’t help thinking that at 66/1 that might be a piece of Champion Chase betting too far, especially when you can find 40/1 on God’s Own, Ar Mad and Charbel. God’s Own for example placed over a distance 5 furlongs longer than this race so could be worth a punt, but that was on far firmer footing.

Likewise Ar Mad got a third place back in December at the 2 mile mark under Joshua Moore, something Charbel hasn’t managed since April of 2017 and if you’re going to take advantage of UK gambling laws to do your Champion Chase betting on David Bass and Charbel you’re a braver man than I am. On the nose, however, Politologue makes far more sense. Having won three of the last four races all over 2 miles or more, and coming second but a month back, this is perhaps the dark horse of the race with the ability to win if the conditions don’t ruin its chances. Of course it’ll have to get by Min and Douvan first, both of which inhabit the 11/4 zone of Champion Chase betting odds, and both of which can easily win if Altior doesn’t have the day all to itself as the bookies seem to believe it should.

Min enters the Champion Chase betting that its form will attract backers, this winter season sees it arrive on the back of three victories, and those over furlongs further than this, but it’ll still have Douvan alongside it who might have disappointed just this month on good going, but flew in the three races before that under Ruby Walsh on soft going of the sort we’ll see on Wednesday, so possibly the one to back, especially if you like to bet on sports in the UK but not on those silly short odds on Altior.
