Potential Holders of the 2018 IndyCar Series Winner Title:
If you ask the fans of the IndyCar series to name one of the strongest teams, the majority of the would definitely mention Chip Ganassi Racing. Founded in 1990, Ganassi teams competed in the IndyCar Series, NASCAR Monster Energy Cup, Xfinity Series’, the IMSA Championship and the FIA World Endurance.
Together, they have won 10 Open Wheel titles (4 in CART, 6 in IndyCar), 5 Grand-Am Road Racing championships, and other wins in numerous events. And Scott Dixon played not the last role in Ganassi Racing’s success.
Scott Dixon
Professional racing driver from New Zealand, Scott Dixon, currently holds 41 wins out of 93 podiums and 248 races at IndyCar Series. Dixon is the leading non-U.S. driver in American Championship Cars, and he is the leading active driver in the current IndyCar Series.
He owns the prestigious Jim Clark Trophy, Bruce McLaren Trophy as well as the New Zealand Order of Merit for services to motorsport.
Josef Newgarden
A defending IndyCar champion, Josef Newgarden, can’t compare his 7 wins out of 19 podiums and 100 races to Dixon’s track record, but let’s face the fact that his only 27 and his IndyCar Series career has started only in 2012.
Newgarden reached his first podium in 2013 with Sarah Fisher’s team. In 2015 he claimed his first victory, racing under the merged team of Sarah Fisher and Ed Carpenter. This new merged team let him improve his position with each race and win again at the 2015 Honda Indy Toronto and finish the season being 7th in the standings with 431 points.
Simon Pagenaud
Newgarden’s “twin” with a quite similar career history. A professional racing driver from France took his first top class championship title in the 2010 American Le Mans Series. –
