Legendary Rossoneri midfielder and World Cup winner Gennaro Gattuso has set fresh goals for his side after being appointed the new manager of AC Milan. The seven-time European champions have dismissed Vincenzo Montella a little over a week ago and have handed the managerial duties over to their former player that has spent nearly 13 years with them (1999-2012) during which time they were one of the biggest sides in European football.
Gattuso is adamant the ‘quality’ to win is there
“It’s definitely an important day for me,” said the 39-year-old manager. “It’s a great responsibility. There’s a lot of work to be done, but it is a pleasure to work with these lads. There’s everything one could need to work well here. My staff and I know that we have a huge responsibility, but I know that this team can do well, we just need to become a team and play as a team. We need a battling spirit, but there is enough quality.”
The Rossoneri are looking to start the new year in better fashion than they enjoyed the first half of the season, and their upcoming game against Crotone at home this Saturday (January 6) will serve as the perfect opportunity to reverse their fortunes. Providers of internet betting in Italy strongly favour Gattuso’s side to clinch an easy victory at San Siro, despite their performances being below par in recent games.

Over the last five games in Serie A, AC Milan have suffered 2 losses, while drawing on another 2 occasions and recording only 1 victory during this time. Their form at home is 10th best in the league with only 4 wins from a total of 9 played at the San Siro so far. And the match against Crotone is a tricky one, because Gattuso has just recently been appointed and we can’t know what to expect from him so early.
The club invested hundreds of millions last summer, but still no results
Hopes for the Rossoneri were raised before the start of the new campaign, as they shelled out plenty of cash on new recruits AC Milan over last summer’s transfer window. The club’s hierarchy spent a whopping €194.50m on 10 new players all across the field, which includes 1 goalkeeper 4 defenders, 3 midfielders and 2 attackers.

Leonardo Bonucci (€42m), Andre Silva (€38m) are among the pricier acquisitions of the nearly €200m overhaul of the squad sanctioned by AC Milan’s board, according to online sportsbook news. Some of the other recruits include the likes of Andrea Conti (€25m), Hakan Calhanoglu (€22m), Ricardo Rodriguez (€18m) and Mateo Musacchio (€18m) among other players.
After 19 rounds in the Italian top flight, AC Milan find themselves in 11th spot on the table with only 25 points, compared to current league leaders Napoli who have collected 48 points until this stage in the campaign. Defending champions Juventus – who have clinched the Serie A title for the last six years straight – are surprisingly second in the league with only a point less than their southern competitors. However, things could easily turn around as the season progresses, so we could yet see a change at the top of the table, with perhaps AC Milan jumping up a few places now that they have Gattuso.
