Will Antoine Griezmann get on the plane to Manchester in January 2018? We will try to get down to brass tacks and help you decide whether to place a bet on Griezmann to sign for United!
Mixed news have been coming out lately from online sportsbook sites in the UK on the next destination for Griezmann. Some believe he will seal a deal and move to the Old Trafford, maybe next summer or maybe when January transfer window opens. Others swing between him and Gareth Bale as being on top of Jose Mourinho’s wish list. Will Manchester United bring the boy to the Premier League? We will try to explore the pros and cons, and help you decide whether to bet on Griezmann to sign for United in winter break.
Should you bet on Griezmann to sign for United?
Both United and Mourinho have been reluctant to enter the January market as buyers. The window is notoriously difficult to find top quality players at a reasonable price. However the Atletico forward was widely expected to arrive to Old Trafford last summer before Atleti’s transfer ban. He has reportedly promised Mourinho on the move and has even chosen to take the vacant No. 7 shirt. Besides the Frenchman’s release clause is reduced back to around £90 m, a figure United were happy to pay.
As Atleti’s ban will be lifted next month, does that mean the United will try to take the advantage, or maybe Mourinho to rethink his transfer strategy?
Other Options in Mourinho’s Hands
Although the Red Devils lost Zlatan Ibrahimovic following his knee injury, they now have Martial who scored eight goals in 20 appearances, and he started winning the trust of Mourinho. In addition Pogba will be back fit due this week. Thus that is not enough, especially in time where Man City are 8 points soaring on top. Probably United are crying out for an injection of creativity to close the gap on their fierce rivals.
Griezmann is not the only talent on Mourinho’s wish list for the New Year. Some players that were rumored to be on the move in the summer like Julian Draxler, Ivan Perisic and Danny Rose could be targeted again by Mourinho in January.
Maybe Griezmann Has Other Preferences than United
Online sportsbook news in the UK have previously mentioned some top clubs potentially running for Griezmann. In the Spanish La Liga alone, Barcelona and Real Madrid may reveal their interests in near future, especially that both of them lack of effective strikers on the pitch. Man City and Chelsea may also present offers, particularly because Griezmann mentioned before his passion to play in the Premier League.
Manchester United: 7/2
Barcelona: 9/2
Manchester City: 16/1
Chelsea: 16/1
PSG: 16/1
Real Madrid: 20/1
AS the bongs ring out in the New Year, clubs will be allowed to start signing players. Griezmann will have 30 days to seal a deal before the window slams shut on deadline day of January 31.
