Everton ready to take on Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby on Saturday while other exciting games are also on the agenda for the weekend.

Fans will bear witness to a bombastic Premier League weekend as Liverpool play hosts to Everton in the Merseyside Derby. Liverpool has so far struggled this season without Luis Suarez as they currently sit in 11th place with a mere 6 points in 5 games. Everton are not enjoying a great spell at the moment as well placed 14th on the table with 5 points overall.

The local derby will definitely have an impact as a win would mean gold for either team. A chance to get three points is always the goal of any football club, however when faced against one of the main rivals the victory feels all the sweater. Both teams have made some big changes over the summer, making the outcome of the match somewhat unpredictable.

Merseyside Derby stats

• Merseyside Derby – ongoing since 1962-63 season

• Liverpool have 19 PL wins in the derby

• Everton won 9 times against The Reds

According to gambling news, the Merseyside Derby is believed to be one of the oldest and lengthiest derbies in the top tier of English football. Some sources state that The Blues and The Reds have faced each other in the top division since the 1962-63 season, which makes the derby older than half a century.

Liverpool, which are the undoubtedly the bigger club of the two sides, has won the encounter a total of 89 times across all competitions, while Everton has managed to record an overall of 66 wins. Also, another 67 games resulted in a draw between the two clubs.

Since the Football League Division One was converted into the Premier League in 1992, The Reds have won 19 matches, with The Toffees claiming a total of 9 victories. The encounter also saw a draw occur on 16 different occasions over the last 22-year period.

Online sportsbooks in the UK favor Liverpool for the win in the derby as they are playing at home. Bet365 is offering odds of 1.91 (10/11) for a Reds win, while The Toffees have been assigned 4.33 (10/3) odds. A draw between the two sides stands at 3.75 (11/4), an event that actually seems like the safest bet.

Punters that wish to play it safe can wager on the Goals Over/Under market, as the odds for over 2.5 goals are 1.60 (3/5), something that seems likely. A little riskier option is the under 2.5 goals considering the odds for that are 2.30 (13/10). Everton’s main attacking talent Lukaku has been assigned odds of 2.63 (13/8) for scoring at anytime.

Daniel Sturridge is primed make more of an impact on derby day, as currently he has only 1 goal to his name in the league. Bet365 favors him to a goalscorer during the match, with odds for him notching a goal at anytime are 2.05 (21/20). Balotelli’s odds for scoring a goal at anytime during the game stand at 2.20 (6/5).

Significant changes have been over the summer

Over the last summer of 2014 both teams have made considerable changes, as some big players left the clubs and others were brought in to replace them. Most notably, Luis Suarez was transferred to Barcelona for a fee that Liverpool claim stood at GBP 75 million (EUR 95 million), while the Catalans assert the price was closer to GBP 65 million (EUR 83 million).

Either way, the Reds have lost their main attacking threat that helped Liverpool put on a serious title challenge last season, as he scored a remarkable 31 goals during the campaign. They have used all the money to buy reinforcements like: Lallana, Lambert, Lovren, Balotelli, Can, Markovic, Origi and some others.

However, despite boasting a deep squad they seem to have lost the flair that they had last season with Luis Suarez among their ranks. On the other hand Everton has managed to secure the signing of striker Lukaku for GBP 28 million (EUR 35 million), who was on loan from Chelsea last season and bagged in an impressive 15 goals in the Premier League.

This man will definitely help them create serious damage in front of the oppositions’ goal. Unlike Balotelli who is just getting into the swing of things at Liverpool, Lukaku has already gotten acclimatized to his club’s environment and is a player that can make a difference.

Other games worth a mention

Chelsea are currently still on top of the table despite blundering last weekend against Manchester City, where their old legend Lampard scored the equalizer. Jose Mourinho’s men will next face Aston Villa at home on Saturday, where they are once again strong favorites 1.22 (2/9), per Bet365.

Southampton who have miraculously managed to reach second spot with a total of 10 points, are up against QPR. Thanks to their recent stunning performance, they are able to command great odds going into the game, with 1.45 (9/20). A draw seem unlikely considering it is 4.75 (15/4).

The Merseyside Derby is not the only derby taking place this weekend, as Arsenal prepare to face Tottenham in the North London Derby. Arsenal sit in fourth place with 9 points from 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss. Going into the game mobile betting provider Bet365 ranks are obvious favorites 1.75 (3/4), while a draw stands at a high 3.90 (29/10).
