Poker in Cyprus
Poker has not traditionally been a popular game in Cyprus, though it is slowly starting to make its way into the gambling world. There are dozens of casinos in North Cyprus that offer poker tables or poker rooms. These casinos are largely targeted towards tourists from Turkey and Israel, but thousands of Cypriots play at them as well. Because there are no casinos in the southern, Greek-controlled part of Cyprus, players living there must travel to North Cyprus to play poker.

A number of strong poker players have come out of Cyprus in recent years. Phidias Georgiou and Argyris Argyrou both played in the European Poker Tour recently and enjoyed some success. Also, Charalambos "Bambos" did well in the first season of the European Poker Masters. These players probably started off at the poker tables of North Cypriot casinos.

Cypriots spend millions of euros gambling on the internet each year, and though the numbers do not show what games they play, poker is certainly enjoyed by many. Playing online poker is a good option for Greek Cypriots who do not wish to travel to the north part of the island to play poker.

The government of Cyprus gives out licenses to set up online poker sites in Cyprus, but these licenses are used almost exclusively by foreign companies to run large international online casinos, poker sites, bingo halls, and sportsbooks. There are few, if any, dedicated online poker sites in Cyprus, though some of the international sites offer Poker in Greek and Turkish for Cypriot players to enjoy.
