Though Piggs Peak’s servers are based in Switzerland, the recent ruling in the North Guateng High Court made Piggs Peak’s South Africa-facing marketing illegal, with fines of ZAR 10 million ($1.41 million) and a prison sentence of 10 years possible.
Due to the appeal, a few of those formerly doing business via
online casinos in South Africa have resumed operations pending the outcome of Piggs Peak’s legal appeal.
The much quoted Gauteng Gambling Board’s head of legal services Lucky Lukhwareni stated in local newspaper The Mail & Guardian that “Even though the leave to appeal was granted by the court, the games haven't been tested against South African standards and the games are not licensed by South African gaming regulators which put online gamblers at risk of being manipulated.”
