Despite strictly limiting online gambling, Poland allows a Czech sportsbook to enter its market just in time for Euro 2012.
Last year, the Polish government heavily restricted online gambling as well as cracked down on electronic slot machines that were omnipresent.
Any online or mobile casino gambling outlet now needs to pay huge fees and high taxes, given they pass multiple audits.
However, under Polish gambling laws, online betting on sports is allowed as long as the operator files and goes through the legal procedures in Polish courts.
Czech sportsbook enters Polish market
According to the latest news, a Czech company, Fortuna Entertainmnet Group NV, just received an online gambling permission from Polish authorities.
Entering Polish market, nearly four times the size of its Czech counterpart, is very positive news for the company.
Polish are great fans of sports, but only since recently the sports betting became familiar to punters.
The sportsbooks also need to understand the specifics of this market. The Polish punter is not interested in American Football, baseball, cricket, rugby, and hockey.
Football is definitely popular. In addition, handball, volleyball, ski jumping, and Formula 1 (thanks to Robert Kubica, a F1 driver) are quite popular and many fans would be interested in betting on these events.
This year, betting on Euro 2012, which takes place in Poland and Ukraine, will be high on the list. As a result, online sportsbooks in Poland are looking forward to a prosperous year.
