Online Gambling Laws in One German State Favored by Operators

The latest in line of major sponsorship deals between Schleswig Holstein organization and online gambling companies is Betfair, a famous online sportsbook, known and trusted worldwide.

Betfair Sportsbook signed a key sponsorship deal with Kiel-Marketing and the City of Kiel to sponsor Kiel Week 2012 and tri-maran racing series MOD70 European Tour 2012.

Kiel Week was initially created as an annual ship racing competition held in the last week of June, but over the years it has grown in popularity and now includes a music festival held across all stages within the city.

Various corporate sponsors from the Schleswig Holstein media and telecommunications industry have traditionally been sponsors of the event. Kiel week attracts around 5,000 sailors, 2,000 ships and approximately 3 million visitors every year.

Betfair becomes one of the first online sportsbooks in Germany to sponsor a major sporting event in the state. Schleswig Holstein is a breakaway German state, which singlehandedly changed German gambling laws and allowed online gambling within the borders of the state. Schleswig Holstein has since become the Mecca for gambling operators looking to boost their brand awareness in Germany.

Spokesperson for the city of Kiel, Tim Holborn, told Germany gambling news: “We are delighted that we have found a strong partner in Betfair.
