Attila Gulcsik, aka 'DodgyFish72', was the sole contender from Hungary at SuperStar Showdown online series of poker held at Poker Stars. He won his place through an $11 satellite at the online poker site
and received $15K to play Isildur1. Despite losing to Viktor Blom at the competition, he gets to keep the whole $15,000 except for $10, which separated them in the end.
After 2,500 heads-up hands, Isildur1 emerged as a winner by just one big blind. At one point of the match, Blom led by over $10,000, beating the amateur in the end, yet leaving Gulcsik with virtually his whole starting stack.
Playing poker at land-based casinos is in full compliance with Hungarian gambling laws
. However, this is not the case, when it comes to online play. Online gambling is regarded as competition to state-run monopoly of Szerencsejatek ZRt. Poker enthusiasts wishing to play online poker in Hungary
can only play at foreign poker rooms like Poker Stars
which is even available in the Hungarian language.
Right after Isildur1 became known as Viktor Blom, he has been showing off his poker skills, playing the best cash-game players within the framework of SuperStar Showdown series. During his past games Blom destroyed such big names as Daniel ‘w00ki3z’ Cates, Tony G, Eugene ‘MyRabbiFoo’ Katchalov and Daniel Negreanu for hundreds of thousands of dollars.
This series of online poker is not all about the money and pride. Poker aficionados have the opportunity to watch the ongoing battle between the old-school professionals of live play and newly emerged online hotshots and cheer for their favorites just as its done in all other professional sporting events.
