Casinos in Taiwan Taiwan has no casinos, but this is soon to change. All gambling in the country was illegal for many years. The government has been considering the legalization of casino gambling since the mid 1990s. In 1994, a team was sent to Las Vegas to learn more about the casino industry and its social effects. New legislation has since legalized casino gambling in Taiwan.
Casinos will only be built at offshore island locations like Penghu. There are plans to build dozens of casinos in Taiwan during the next decade. Private corporations like AMZ Holdings PLC will be the primary owners of the casinos, but the Taiwanese government is currently planning to contribute as much as $1 billion USD to put towards building new casinos. AMZ Holdings foresaw the legalization of casino gambling, and has spent the past 8 years buying up land in Penghu so that they can build a high-end tourist gambling resort.
Online Casinos in Taiwan Online casinos in Taiwan are not planned. There are currently no legal Taiwanese casinos operating on the internet – any online casino sites offering real money gambling in Taiwan are illegal and should not be used. While the Taiwanese government is excited about the new land-based casinos, it does not seem to have made any plans to license internet casinos anytime soon.
In the meantime, players in Taiwan use foreign online casinos. These are sites hosted in other countries that cater to an international gambling audience. Because these sites are located in places where the Taiwanese government has no jurisdiction, so even if the government doesn't like Taiwanese players using foreign sites, there is not much that they can do about it. There are several website that allow Taiwanese players to play online casino games.
