Casinos in New Zealand
The first casino in New Zealand did not open its doors until 1994. It was the Christchurch Casino and it is still in operation today. At the time, the government of New Zealand gave out six licenses for casinos to operate in the country. Today, there are seven casinos in total, and many are operated by Sky City.

Sky City Aukland is easily the largest and most impressive casino in all of New Zealand. The casino sits at the base of the impressive Sky Tower building, which, at 328 meters, is on one of the tallest structures in the world. Sky City Aukland houses 1,650 gambling machines and 114 table games. It was already licensed in 1993, but did not open until 1996. There are four other casinos run by Sky City, along with a massive chain of cinemas.

Online Casinos in New Zealand
There are no online casinos in New Zealand. The government has given out a very limited number of licenses for companies in New Zealand to operate online gambling websites, which went to the national lottery and sports betting organizers. They run the only legal gambling websites licenses by and hosted in New Zealand. No plans are in the books to offer licenses to allow the country’s casinos to operate on the internet.

Players in New Zealand can still play online casino games by simply using foreign casino websites.
