Casinos in Lithuania
The first Lithuanian casino did not open its doors to the public until March of 2002. Prior to this gambling in Lithuania was illegal for many years. This was due in part to the Soviet presence in the country, but also to the strong Catholic influence. Gambling was finally legalized in 2001, and today, there are about a dozen large-scale casinos in Lithuania, mostly catering to the tourist trade.

Smaller gambling halls with machine games can be found in greater numbers – there are over 1000 scattered across this small country. Only machines with limited payouts can be legally offered in gambling halls, and machines must be purchased new to be legal. Machines with unlimited payouts can only be offered in casinos.

Online Casinos in Lithuania
Online gambling in Lithuania is legal. Actually, it is better to say there are no laws that deal with it, so it is not illegal. The Lithuanian government does not give out licenses to operate casinos on the internet (though local lottery and sportsbooks run websites that offer online gambling in Lithuania). Even though the situation is very relaxed regarding internet gambling in Luthania, online casinos have not become popular.
