Casinos in Greece Casino gambling is legal in Greece, but casino-style games and all other interactive gambling are only allowed in registered casinos. There are currently 17 casinos across the country. Only two are in Anthens, and ten are located on the Greek islands, mostly in Corfu and Rhodes.
Greek casinos are mostly found attached to large hotels, and the casinos themselves are very much aimed at foreign tourists. Card games are extremely popular in Greek culture, and there are thousands of card-playing clubs throughout the country, but proper casino gaming has not really caught on.
Online Casinos in Greece There are no online casinos in Greece as the Greek government is very much against online gambling of any kind. It went unchecked for many years, until 2002 when a law was passed that banned all forms of electronic games in the country. This was part of an attempt to stop gambling in internet cafes. Unfortunately, poor wording in the law also meant it made it illegal for people to play computer and console games in their homes.
The law has relaxed since then, but it still bans all computer games, gambling or not, in internet cafes. Greeks, of course, still play online casino games at foreign sites, but do it discretely from their own homes. There are several large, international internet casinos that accept Greek players. Some of them even offer a Greek version of their casino.
There are 147 Greek online casinos that offer gameplay in English or Greek and accept wagers in Euro or US Dollars
