Casinos in China There are only two places in China where casinos can be found. One is in the Special Administrative Region in Macau – a small territory that, until 1999, was controlled by the Portuguese government. Gambling has been legal in Macau since the 1850s. Today the area houses 30 massive casinos, including big American names like MGM, the Venetian and Sands. In fact, for the past few years, Macau has brought in more gambling revenue than Vegas, making it the gambling centre of the world.
The only other casino in China is on the cruise ship Xiang Xue Lan in Yantai City, in the northern part of China. The ship sails between China to Korea.
Online Casinos in China Chinese online casinos are illegal if they are hosted in China.
Underground casinos pop up frequently on the internet, but players
should avoid any illegal sites hosted in China, because they often get
closed down by the government, and players run the risk of losing their
money.
Instead, there are dozens of offshore online casinos that accept Chinese
players. Many are available in both English and Chinese, and some even
accept Chinese Renminbi as payment. Sometimes these casinos are run by Chinese
businesses, but are just hosted and licensed in other places where
internet gambling is fully legal.
