Bingo in Bulgaria Bingo in Bulgaria does not enjoy the fame and popularity that it does in English-speaking countries, but the game is far more popular there than in most other countries in eastern and central Europe. Since 1994, bingo has been legal in Bulgaria. Today, there are over 50 bingo halls scattered throughout the country. Bingo in Bulgaria, much like casinos, comes in two types: local bingo and tourist bingo. Tourist games are offered in the large casinos, and are provided in several languages. A few tourist-oriented sites are located in large cities, like Bingo Blakin in Plavdiv, which sits right next to a McDonalds, in a great spot for attracting tourists.
Local bingo halls in Bulgaria are different. These games are only provided in Bulgarian. The halls are much smaller in scale, and the atmosphere is quite different. The game has grown quite popular, and the government has attached a few rules regarding where bingo halls may be located – they cannot be built in towns of less than 50,000 people, and they cannot be located within 30km of an international border. Any hotels of three stars or higher can legally operate a bingo club.
Online Bingo in Bulgaria Internet bingo in Bulgaria has not yet matured. While online gambling is fully legal, it is highly taxed and strictly regulated by the government. The government has a monopoly on all sprorts betting and lottery-style gaming on the internet, but the site, called Sports Totalizator, does not offer a Bingo section. They are considering opening up the site to offer more types of games, but in the meantime, Bulgarians will have to play online bingo games in other languages and on international internet bingo sites.
