Bingo in Brazil
Bingo is one of the few forms of gambling in Brazil that is still legal. Since the mid 1960s casinos have been outlawed, while most other forms of gambling in the country have been banned since 1946. Bingo in Brazil was made illegal for a short while in 2004, after a member of the Brazilian government was caught demanding bribes from someone in the Brazilian bingo industry. All bingo operations were closed down from March 2004. This led 30,000 Brazilian bingo hall workers to take to the street in protest. In October 2004, bingo in Brazil was declared legal again.
